You may have noticed the Deepings Advertiser is getting smaller? We used to typically have between 8 and 12 pages every week but recently that has dropped to between 6 and 10 pages. This is in part due to marketing moving towards digital platforms (although people are beginning to get fed up with being bombarded with email and Facebook adverts and there is a suggestion that some people are moving back to more traditional platforms such as print), but you may have also noticed there are quite a few more magazines competing with us than were around previously and some of them use a harder sales approach than we do. Our customers tell us that they frequently get calls or visits trying to persuade them to advertiser in alternative publications. We have always tried to let customers come to us, based on our reputation and openly publicised prices.
6 pages is barely viable as the distribution costs almost outweigh the advertising revenue. Thus, we are proposing to reduce the frequency of the Deepings Advertiser from January 2024.
The Villages Advertiser reduced from every week to twice a month back in 2022 and this has seemed to be a successful option, at present the Deepings Advertiser is issued 4 times a month but that will drop to twice monthly (the first and 3rd Friday of each month) starting in 2024.
